Why Costa Rica

The second question people always ask me when I tell them I am driving to Costa Rica to live is "Why Costa Rica?" Of course the first question always is "You can drive there, I thought it was an island?" No its not an island and to Lori and I, it is the closest fit to a perfect country for us. There is no such thing as a perfect country and Costa Rica does have flaws. To us though, Costa Rica is a good fit and here is why, in no specific order:

1. No terrorism nonsense.
2. No military at all.
3. 26% of the country is national parks.
4. Hunting is illegal.
5. Cutting down any but very small trees is illegal.
6. Easy access to two oceans.
7. Nice beaches.
8. Warm year round weather.
9. Great diversity of plants and animals.
10. Low taxes.
11. Easy immigration policy.
12. Easy pet import policy.
13. Close to U.S. for friends and family to visit.
14. You can drive there (4 of our 5 pets can't fly on planes).
15. Voted the friendliest country 3 out of the last 4 years.
16. Banks pay a high interest rate.
17. Does not use the U.S. dollar as a currency.
18. The central bank does not continually print money nonstop.
19. Honest elections where 3rd parties have a shot to win.
20. Numerous North Americans already reside there.
21. Cost of living is less than in U.S.
22. Police that largely stay out of your business.
23. The government allows true freedom.
24. Although Spanish is the language, English is widely spoken.
25. Violent crime rate is low.
26. Real estate near the ocean is very affordable.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, but this will provide you with a sense of why we picked Costa Rica.

Pura Vida!
